Mountain Meadow Engagements in the Cascades—
Camille and Gordon have quite literally lived all over the United States together, but Oregon has become their home the last few years. Every chance they get, the two venture up into the Cascade Mountains for weekend camping and backpacking trips, so it was only fitting their engagement photos represent their love for the outdoors. On a gorgeous weekend in early June, we flew up to Oregon to meet Camille and Gordon in Bend to celebrate their engagement and go for a sunset adventure!
We had both independently researched locations and compared lists, but the dense, unmelted snowpack high in the Cascades was preventing us from many of the trails we were hoping to photograph. We ultimately made the last minute decision to head west on the Cascade Lakes Scenic Byway out of Bend and just stop wherever we found a photogenic location that encapsulated the volcanic Oregon landscape— snowcapped peaks, lush pine forest, and flowing water. After passing Mt. Bachelor, we rounded a (densely snow covered) bend in the road and stumbled upon Sparks Lake Meadow. The location was perfect.
We were surrounded by peaks on all sides— Broken Top, South Sister, and Mt. Bachelor itself towered around us. The flat meadow gave Camille and Gordon’s dogs, who of course had to come along, room to roam, and the iconic evergreens of the Pacific Northwest completed the backdrop. If you know anything about Joseph and me, you know we love the mountains, and any chance we can get out of the desert and up to elevation fuels our souls. We were so excited to explore the trails around Sparks Lake as the sun set behind the mountains with Camille and Gordon, recounting the many trails in the area they’d backpacked during their time living in central Oregon.
This engagement session was so incredibly life-giving, from the incredibly fun couple we got to spend an evening with to the location 🥲!! We are so grateful our business has evolved to the point that we have people flying us all over to take their photos. It’s mind blowing that we get to do this for a living, and see the world while doing our job. Thank you to Camille and Gordon and thank you to everyone who keeps us busy!
