Engagement Photos Overlooking the Golden Gate Bridge—

Michaela and Jake, who we have gotten to know at a number of weddings over the last few years as we’ve photographed a few members of her college friend group (!!!), are engaged! The two met living in the Northeast, and just recently moved out to the California Bay Area to begin their west coast life together. Wanting to mark this new season, and their engagement with a photo session, they took advantage of our Travel Schedule, and met us in Marin County for their engagement photos! Wanting to capture some coastal California vibes, as well as a more typical date night scene, we chose to spend our hour together beginning with golden hour at Cavallo Point, followed by blue hour strolling the quaint streets of Sausalito, ice cream in hand. They even had their dog, Bandit, join for a bit! (And if you’re wondering, our favorite question is “can we bring our dog to our engagement session?”)

I’ve long been a fan of the Cavallo Point and Marin Headlands area of the north bay, and have always dreamed of taking photos here! We were in Marin for one of my college best friends’ wedding, and flew in a day early to spend the evening with Michaela and Jake! Cavallo Point is such a sweet location for Bay Area photos, especially if your vision includes the Golden Gate Bridge. This resort area right on the water is significantly less crowded than the Headlands, or anything on the San Francisco side of the bridge, and is especially ideal if the urban scene is not your vibe! There are so many different environments and textures to be photographed just at the Cavallo Point Lodge itself, one reason why I love it so much!

We began the session on the massive lawn at the lodge, with the sun dancing off the hills and redwoods behind us. This space is dog friendly, so we used this location for Bandit’s part of the session. Over the years I’ve noticed dogs, like people, photograph most naturally when we incorporate normal movement (aka, lots of walking), so we did just this to get Michaela, Jake, and Bandit feeling comfortable in front of the camera! Bandit found lots of sticks, and I really believe we captured his full personality in these :).

After the lawn, we moved over to the Presidio Yacht Club, on the water adjacent to Cavallo Point. The light was just perfect this whole evening, glittering off the bay and catching gorgeously on the row of sailboats parked in the marina. For such a beautiful night, there was absolutely no one around, which made my heart so happy! We wandered along the waterfront as the sun dipped behind the hills. Once we had enough of the sailboats, we turned around for the main attraction, the Golden Gate Bridge. Nothing is more iconic, especially with Jake and Michaela’s recent move to California, than this landmark, and I am so grateful we had the sunniest evening (Karl the fog did not show up 🤌🏼) to capture the Golden Gate in all her glory.

After all was said and done, we headed down to Sausalito for some more casual photos, grabbing ice creams and sparkling bevs at the cutest deli market, and wandering around town. I love this quaint little town right on the water for its view of the city and quiet strolls! We stayed out walking and laughing with Michaela and Jake until the sun set for the evening, so excited that it was finally their turn to be the ones in the friend group to be photographed by us! We felt so full of joy this whole evening— the most life giving way to spend an extra day of our trip to the Bay!

We hope you love Michaela and Jake’s sunny Cavallo Point and Golden Gate Bridge engagement photos as much as we do!

We’re Katie & Joseph, California wedding photographers.

We love our job because we get a unique, intimate, deep dive into a couple’s life that not many others get to see. We make close friendships with our couples, and these days, often end up working with them from their proposal, to their wedding, and in all the milestones that come after.

We are big fans of documenting wedding days in an unposed, raw, genuine, and honest way that allows our couples to maximize their experience on their day while also receiving a gallery full of stunning images that communicate how it felt to be there.

Though we’re based in California + Arizona, we’ll travel anywhere for a good love story (and dance party). We invite you to follow the links below to learn more about us and our services, and to get in contact with us!
