Saguaro Lake Ranch Proposal | Phoenix, AZ
A surprise proposal along the Salt River—
This corner of the Phoenix valley is my absolute favorite! The Salt has carved its way through the most dramatic cliffs, resulting in magical backdrops that really add to all kinds of special moments, like Penn and Brielle’s marriage proposal at the scenic Saguaro Lake Guest Ranch Joseph got to capture the other weekend! If you and your partner are especially big on all things western, horseback riding included, keep this spot in your back pocket for date night or your own proposal (or wedding!!), because the Bulldog Cliffs make this spot a real hidden gem that epitomizes Arizona.
I’m amazed with how seamlessly this all came together. After running into delays getting Brielle’s ring (and planning and taking her on a number of very thoughtfully planned dates that did not end in a proposal), Penn finally had everything in place, and contacted us hoping we’d be available to capture their engagement. Joseph was, and the three of us started planning for the moment. Penn saw a photo from an elopement we photographed last year along the Salt River, and thought it would be the perfect location to propose. Brielle is about as enthralled with these cliffs along the Salt River as we are! We shared the location with him, and he was so excited to discover Saguaro Lake Ranch was quite literally adjacent to our spot.
Brielle was a rodeo athlete, and loves any chance to go for a horseback ride. The plan was in motion— Penn and Brielle would set out on a guided trail ride from Saguaro Lake Ranch, which would conclude on the ranch’s scenic lawn right around sunset. There, Penn would drop to one knee and ask his love to marry him. If you know Joseph, he loves all things “yeehaw,” horses, ranching, cattle brandings; he’s been given the nickname “Big Country” for good reason. A better day for Penn and Brielle, and a better proposal for Joseph to capture could not be imagined. Thank you, Lord!
Spring in Phoenix is magic. It’s warm, but not hot yet (thank goodness), with glittering golden sunsets, and, often, soft clouds that sit high in the sky and make these west facing Salt River locations extra photogenic. This was exactly the type of day Penn and Brielle had for their golden hour trail ride turned engagement! I just love how Joseph was able to capture their sweet love for each other— a very playful yet madly in love kind of relationship— made only possible by the fact these two are genuinely, madly in love with one another! We are big fans of documenting wedding days in an unposed, raw, genuine, and honest way that allows our couples to maximize their experience on their day while also receiving a gallery full of stunning images that communicate how it felt to be there.
When we’re not photographing weddings, we take on a limited number of other sessions, our favorite being proposals. We love to work with our couples to plan every detail and capture the moment with a documentary flair!
