Torrey Pines Gliderport Engagement Photos | Lauren & Dylan

This was a day I have been anxiously anticipating for literal years.

I met Dylan and Lauren when they were in college at Cal Poly (I got to take Lauren’s graduation photos!!!), and they’ve been guests at so many of the weddings we’ve photographed over the years. I’ve fallen so in love with them as people and as a couple, and I’d been hoping that, when they’d eventually get engaged, I’d get to be part of it too. When Dylan let me know the proposal was very near on the horizon, I was honored. He filled me in on his plans to give Lauren the greatest weekend, and then top it all off with an engagement session that following week.

Part of this engagement weekend would occur in Lauren’s hometown of San Diego, and we decided that would be the best place to take their engagement photos. I booked my flights, and Dylan and I worked together to create a moodboard of potential locations he and Lauren would love. Born and raised in California, he and Lauren both loved that classic coastal vibe, especially the one you imagine when you think of a San Diego engagement session— a long stretch of white, sandy beach soaked in the golden SoCal sunlight. But they were also hoping to capture a jaw dropping landscape, and luckily, I had a few locations in mind.

We settled on the ever-classic Torrey Pines Gliderport, which features sheer sandstone cliffs which drop off dramatically to Black’s Beach below. In this location, we’d get epic shots up on the cliffs before traversing the trail down to the beach for some classic SoCal vibes. We planned the whole thing behind the scenes, and Lauren was brought in on it just a few short days before. It was such a blessing reuniting with these two when we pulled up for the session!

Late September meant less of a threat of the marine layer ruining our session, and we were greeted with warm sunlight as we began Lauren and Dylan’s engagement session up on the bluffs. The views this space provides are just magic. The day was so perfectly clear, too, and we could see all the way up and down the coast. As we made our way down to Black’s Beach below, that pesky marine layer did roll in, but I really love the way it made for a cozy and slightly moody second half of the session. We meandered up and down the beach and even into the ocean a little bit as the sun set.

I am so grateful to our couples who stay so loyal to us and our business. I am grateful for the opportunity to travel around the country capturing special love stories! And I am so grateful to share this one with you today :)
