Dreamy Draw Engagement Photos | Sara & Max
We’re officially in our desert era!!!!!!
If you’ve been following along, you’d know 2023 has been a wild season for us, going back and forth between our home bases in Phoenix, Arizona, and San Luis Obispo, California. Our tired selves are very excited to bring this season to a close and call Phoenix our home for good! Our time in the Valley of the Sun was brought in very appropriately, with an engagement session in a location that is so 🤌🏼 quintessentially 🤌🏼 desert. The landscape in Phoenix is something that has long captivated me, and I was so SO excited to finally photograph love in this very landscape.
As we always do, we encouraged Sara and Max to select a location for their engagement photos that had a bunch of sentiment to them (if they were able, of course!!). They did just this, deciding to take their photos in the place where they had their very first date, Dreamy Draw Recreation Area. Max, who grew up in Phoenix, grew up hiking the miles of trails in this natural space, and decided to bring Sara there at the very beginning. Fast forward a few years, and a commitment to forever, we found ourselves in the very same place, romping about the mountain trails to capture these two in their element.
Perhaps my favorite part of this engagement session was the beginning, the part of the session where we explain how the next hour or so are going to work to our couple. Like most people who haven’t been in front of the camera before, Sara and Max were a little nervous about having their photos taken. When we explained to them that they should just focus on loving each other, pretending as if we were not even there, it all clicked. “So it’s just like we’re on a date and you’re here with us,” they observed. Immediately, their normal selves, not trying to be anything else for the camera, came out to play, and I am so, SO happy with the result.
These two are so real with each other and so in love. They are goofy and playful and simply enjoy being around one another. To photograph the very real them in the place where their love story began was so special. For our first “official” session in Phoenix, I say we really hit it out of the park when it comes to the quality people we got the sweet opportunity to photograph.
I’m also so grateful for the opportunity to explore one of Phoenix’s many, many natural protected open spaces. Taking in the colorful desert sunset from these trails was absolutely magical. It makes me so excited for our future of photographing more couples in the midst of this unique landscape!
