Mountain Meadow Engagement Photos in San Luis Obispo | Mikayla & Jonny

The rain has *finally* stopped in San Luis Obispo, leaving behind the greenest hills I have ever seen.

We’ve basically been transported to an Ireland dotted with volcanic plugs. It’s quite the perfect setting to document our final spring on the Central Coast. The sun is out at last and with it come all of our (rescheduled due to rain) spring engagement sessions! So many of our couples return to SLO to get married after meeting here during their time at Cal Poly. When it comes to their engagement photos, they often ask for locations that epitomize their beloved college town. Joseph and I are always on the hunt for new backdrops that *scream* SLO, and that is how we stumbled upon this one. I have a feeling it’s about to become our new most popular location ;)

I’ve always loved the view looking down the ridge of the Nine Sisters (the iconic volcanic plug system that stretches from the Edna Valley all the way to Morro Bay), especially at sunset in the spring, when the hills are green and the dipping sun golden as can be. I will not exaggerate in the slightest when I say I have been in search of the perfect location to capture this for years (and simultaneously trying to convince our couples to come on an adventure with us to find it during their engagement sessions). Well, I am happy to report, we located the perfect mountain vista, and Mikayla and Jonny were the brave ones to test it out with us.

Now when I say SLO popped off this evening, I mean it (and if you’re not convinced, below you’ll find 36 photographs that may sway you the other way). Our little town is as green as it gets, with the occasional wildflower in bloom, and the perfect setting for a spring engagement session. I must add, there also was a persistent, frigid spring wind that Mikayla and Jonny bore most gracefully, but I think it was very worth the extra movement it added to all the photos. And what is San Luis Obispo if it isn’t a bit (read- very) windy.

I love Mikayla and Jonny’s relationship. We were grateful to chat with them twice during booking, and truly could have stayed on the calls with them for hours. These people are real, inquisitive, and kind, just the kind of humans you’d want to spend a few hours romping around a mountain in the freezing wind with. And the way they are with each other— goofy, light hearted, and always looking out for each other’s well being. This session involved mostly bear-hug type prompts for survival, and it was wildly beautiful to watch Jonny constantly making sure Mikayla was protected from the *elements.*

We cannot wait for their summer wedding at one of our favorite venues in San Luis Obispo later on this year, and to continue our friendship with these two incredible people too!
