Adventurous SLO Engagement Session | Brittany & Arty
Oh boy, friends, if we are sure of anything recently, it’s that we’ve been given the greatest couples to work with. Brittany & Arty are no exception to that statement, we LOVE these two! We’re honored to be photographing their wedding next Spring, and the two decided to make a trip out to San Luis Obispo for their engagement session, which quickly turned more adventurous than we predicted.
Brittany contacted us a few days after Arty proposed and said, with everything that had happened in the last year, these two knew they wanted to be married, and they didn’t want to wait any longer! They set a date for Spring 2021, amid Arty’s ever changing, unpredictable football schedule, and began planning! The two made a weekend vacation out of a trip out to San Luis Obispo to hang out with us and take some sweet photos, and we’re pretty sure this is the beginning of a life giving friendship!
Brittany & Arty loved the look of Haley & Austin’s engagement photos, and decided that would be their first location. We said heck yes, and made our way up to Paso Robles! We arrived to a very different looking space. The once lush, green hills were now heavily landscaped, barren, and covered in garbage (seriously people??). We snapped a few photos up on the hill and then called a total audible. Our plan was to end up on one of our favorite backroads near San Luis Obispo, but we had a ton of time to kill before the sunlight was perfect there.
The two had never explored the northern coast of SLO County before, so we set off on an adventure. We brought them to the tiny town of Harmony and found a spot away from the tourists and their ice cream and had the most gorgeous, sun-lit forest landscape to enjoy together. Brittany & Arty explored all the hidden Highway 1 gem had to offer (as we followed with our cameras) before we packed it all up and headed to our favorite spot at last light.
This road is one of my favorites, and the golden hills mixed with that warm fall light make it especially magical this time of year. We had the best time as the sun set and gave way to a gorgeous moon and cotton candy skies. I don’t think any of us have ever laughed as much as we did during this engagement session, and we have Brittany & Arty and their fun, easy going selves to thank for that!
At the end of their shoot, they told us they were nervous going into it because they never take photos together, and they weren’t sure what this whole experience would be like. They were pleasantly surprised that they had that much fun, and that it felt so easy. Joseph said it perfectly, “it’s not our job to pose you like every couple you see on the internet. We see our responsibility as photographers as prompting you in ways to get your natural personalities to show, so we can genuinely capture the real relationship you share!”
Keep on scrollin’ to see the beautiful love & friendship these two share! And stay tuned for their wedding next Spring!!
