Santa Barbara Historical Museum Wedding | Rachel & Devin
This summer wedding at a stunning adobe venue has quickly become one of my favorites ever—
And there exists so many reasons for that. To name a few: the fun-loving couple (duh), the desert theme tastefully incorporated throughout the day, the woodfired pizza we got to enjoy for dinner, the opportunity to visit Santa Barbara. But certainly the biggest reason is Rachel and Devin’s vision for the photography of their day. From the moment they initially inquired with us, they were very clear in communicating their desire for a gallery made up completely of candid photos documenting their day authentically (other than the few posed family portraits they planned), and their deep trust in us to do so, without any interruption from them. Rachel and Devin encapsulate what we aim to do when we begin working with a couple— to truly let them enjoy every second of their wedding day while they leave the unposed documentation of it to us, and we are so grateful for the way they put their confidence in us to nail their vision.
I am beyond happy with the results, but what makes me more happy is how carefree Rachel, Devin, and their families got to be throughout their wedding day. No one was ever stressed or worried, and I think that general vibe really shows up in every photograph. Nothing was posed. Nothing was forced. These people truly got to be present in every second of their wedding day. We were so excited to read Rachel’s review of their experience with us too, noting that we were the best decision she and Devin made for their wedding (🥲🥲🥲). Thank you, Lord, for blessing us with couples like this, and a vision that aligns with theirs!
Now a little about Rachel and Devin’s Santa Barbara wedding—
They chose the stunning Santa Barbara Historical Museum to be their venue. This landmark situated quite literally in the middle of Santa Barbara is an old adobe with so much character. Sprawling courtyards, spanish-style architecture, and all kinds of desert plants create the most stunning backdrop for a summer wedding. If you know me, you know my deep affinity for all things desert, so it was truly a dream to walk into this venue and plan how we were going to utilize the space and all its textures to photograph Rachel and Devin’s day. Rachel is a wildly talented artist by trade, and designed everything you see below from the signage to the decor. Tasteful pops of color and desert motifs filled the space, and really made this setting a dream come true to photograph.
Rachel and Devin’s day evolved beautifully, nothing staged, just two people surrounded by everyone they love celebrating an absolutely life changing day. There was so much joy, so many laughs, and so much pizza (thank you Lucca!!!!). We don’t do double header wedding weekends often, but when a couple like this passes through your inquiries, it’s something you cannot say no to. Documenting every moment of this precious day was such an honor and will go down as one of the highlights of my career as a wedding photographer.
