Urban Rooftop Elopement | Phoenix, AZ

An urban elopement in the neighborhood where they first met—

I truly could not have envisioned a more full circle setting for Haley and Ken’s downtown Phoenix wedding day. These two met while attending ASU and spent the early years of their friendship turned relationship wandering the up and coming streets of downtown Phoenix. Though their careers have taken them away from the Valley now, it always seemed like the perfect place to get married. After the two decided to scrap their traditional wedding plans (and the stress and drama that can so very easily accompany those plans), they opted for a winter wedding in the desert, focusing in on the very neighborhood where their love started.

And that’s how we all ended up on the rooftop of the Renaissance in the middle of downtown on a gorgeous, sunny December afternoon. I’m so happy Haley and Ken opted for the much less stressful route in wedding planning, simply finding a space to hold their ceremony, gather their closest friends and family, and then head off to dinner to celebrate after. They chose to include me in the midst of the moments they wanted photographed, which began with Haley’s dad walking her down to the street for her first look with Ken. To celebrate the very place in which they met and were getting married, they chose to see each other for the first time in front of one of downtown Phoenix’s very colorful murals.

After taking in this sweet moment together, we headed back to the hotel (I will forever be a big fan of the candid photos that come with navigating urban settings in wedding clothes), where hundreds of young dancers were staying for a competition. It was so sweet watching hundreds of little girls fawning over the real life princess that was Haley in her wedding dress, all done up and beautiful! These made for some very fun and unique little shots throughout the day. We even caught some of the curious kids watching their ceremony through the hotel’s windows 🥲🥲🥲🥲🥲.

Hand in hand, Haley and Ken made their way up to the rooftop where their closest people waited for them to arrive for their ceremony. After exchanging personal vows, so many hugs, and toasting to forever together, Haley and Ken were officially married! We had one last stop on the agenda for the afternoon. As the sun set, we headed over to the very pub where Haley and Ken spent so many of their early years for some whiskey. It only seemed fitting this be the very first thing they do as a now married couple, to complete their full circle day.
