Our Wedding
So if you haven’t been around here long, hello, we’re Katie & Joseph (and if you have, what’s upppp!!!!)! Aside from this sweet little business partnership we’ve got going, we also have a life partnership. Heck yes, you read that right, we are a husband & wife team in all the things life throws at us! This past summer, we made that official, standing before God and our families and as many of our friends as COVID would allow us, and made vows to each other until Jesus calls us home. If you don’t know the story about how we came to be, you can read all about it here (beware, it’s a condensed version, you’re gonna have to hang out with us if you want to hear the whole thing)!
Our wedding was supposed to be a giant Fourth of July party (if you know us, you know we LOVE America) at a cattle ranch featuring barbecue, and we prayed endlessly that it would stay this way as COVID continued to progress. We dreamed of a day in which, just as we came together as one, so would our families and friends who had walked through significant parts of life with each of us. As the date got closer, we had to cut our guest list by 80% which was absolutely heartbreaking, but, at the end of the day, we just wanted to be married, so we went ahead with the smaller Fourth of July party at a cattle ranch featuring barbecue.
Plans were modified, but we still got to enjoy our mornings getting ready. Joseph and the boys finished setting up the barn, and then drank Cactus Cooler, bourbon, and shot rifles before cleaning up and getting ready for the ~ marriage. ~ Us gals got ready at Joseph’s and my tiny apartment over champagne & bagels because who doesn’t love carbs? I cried a tonnnn with Joseph’s mom about the sweet man she raised and I was about to marry. Getting ready time got super emotional and I was THERE for it!
Joseph and I were SO FREAKING EXCITED to see each other and are so glad we had a first look. We both said after the fact that we missed each other like crazy all day, and were absolutely dying to just be together. We shared the sweetest moment under the spanish moss at the ranch, and settled our hearts and nerves before we did the thing!!!!!
We were married by our beloved Pastor Jay from our old church. He recounted the long story of us, detailing how God really persevered to bring us together, two of our best friends read Ephesians 5, and we exchanged personal vows that reflected everything God did in our hearts to prepare us for relationship and marriage. We later learned that this was the first time a lot of people heard the full story of us, and how deeply God wove himself into it. Our goal for our ceremony was to honor God, what He had done in us, and have the gospel shared, and it made us so happy to know that was achieved!
After the ceremony, we got to enjoy cocktails and all the yummy bbq with our friends and family before we shared our first dance to Tennessee Whiskey by Chris Stapleton, a song we seem to slow dance to alllll the time in our kitchen. We cut our cake and then scrambled up the mountain for our seriously breathtaking golden hour photos!!! We looked over the whole Los Osos Valley and soaked in everything!! LIKE HOLY MOLY WE WERE MARRIED!!!! EEP!
After the adventure that was our golden hour photos, we returned to the barn for toasts and a lowkey dance party (thanks COVID), featuring an impromptu flash mob (things that happen when all your friends are involved in the same kids’ ministry, lol). We said our goodbyes to all our people before heading up to Paso in the Jeep, cans in tow, to begin our honeymoon!!
