Soarin' Over California, But In Real Life

I’ve always been that person who begs for the window seat in an airplane (even though I have a bladder the size of a blueberry and have to climb over the poor people sitting next to me about a hundred times per flight). Joseph is the exact same way, and this may or may not pose a problem in our marriage, but for now we’re grateful for opportunities to live the real life version of Soarin’ Over California.

Joseph’s dad is a pilot (yep, the coolest thing ever), and asked us to come up to Lake Almanor last weekend to help him pour concrete on a new project he’s working on. The sweetest part of a weekend at the lake was when he offered to fly us up there in his Comanche. As you can imagine, my heart skipped a beat when I thought about how gorgeous the state was about to look from 8000 feet.

Much like Joseph and me, my father in law is one for taking the scenic route, and that is just what we did. After spending the weekend in beautiful Lake Almanor, we took a sunset flight down the Coastal Corridor to end our weekend, and it was a TREAT. Between the glare of the plane’s windows and India Earl’s Honey Preset, I could not be more excited about how beautifully these photos of California from the sky turned out.

If you’re into vintage looking, filmy photos of some seriously gorgeous landscapes only God can create, keep scrolling! (Or head over to our Print Shop where you can have them printed for you to look at in real life ;))

Pre-flight in chilly Lake Almanor! I got to watch the sun light up the tall pines from inside a vintage camper. This weekend was so life-giving from start to finish! But now for the REAL good stuff…

We made our way for the coast, soaring over Napa Valley before hanging a left at Mount Tamalpais and making a pass over the Golden Gate Bridge!

One of my favorite photos I’ve ever taken, the pigeon point lighthouse sticks up out of the barren California coastline, drawing the attention of ships and flight passengers alike!

As the sun began to set, we made a turn down the Salinas Valley, bound for San Luis Obispo

Our descent into SLO brought the most gorgeous sunset, as usual, and allowed us to fly over some incredibly thick and beautiful cloud formations as dusk set in

I know this isn’t the kind of content you’re used to seeing here, but I wanted to give you an idea of what our life looks like on weekends when we aren’t at weddings. Yep, we’re real people just like you, and we LOVE to travel! The bug bites me pretty hard, and I am always itching for a new adventure like this one!

We’d love to get to know you and the kind of adventures you’re into! Our contact form is always open to chat about life or to inquire about how we can bring your story and adventures to life :)
