Intimate Salinas Wedding | Scott & Gift
Scott & Gift’s intimate Salinas wedding was not what they had planned, but, like every couple facing a COVID wedding, they decided to make the best of it. Their priority was getting married, so even if that day didn’t look like what they had planned, they were excited to finally become one together.
Their wedding day was full of emotion from the start. Scott & Gift flew to California from their home in Washington, D.C. and held their wedding ceremony on the grounds of Scott’s childhood church. They then headed to Scott’s parents’ backyard for their intimate, rustic reception.
Gift’s mother, who lives in Thailand, somehow found a loophole in the United States’ travel restrictions and was able to witness her daughter be married in person. Dozens of family and friends joined in to witness the two get married via livestream, while immediate family and bridal party gathered to celebrate in person.
Perhaps the most memorable part of this intimate Salinas wedding was the reception. The evening began with toasts. Gift’s mother delivered hers in her native Thai, with her brother in law translating her heart felt message into English, leaving everyone there in tears. Scott & Gift danced to Goodness of God, becoming emotional as they reflected on their story together and how beautiful it was to finally be married. As the dance progressed, everyone started singing along to the song, turning the first dance into an emotional worship session, again helping everyone to tears easily.
Decor was simple. Gift, a big fan of white roses, wore flowers in her hair and decorated the tables with the flowers as well. Rustic, green centerpieces spaced with candles lined the tables. Dinner was made by the families, Italian food from Scott’s side, and Thai food from Gift’s side. Wedding favors- a strawberry tea to represent Scott’s work in studying strawberries, and Thai tea to represent Gift’s heritage- offered a sweet ending to the evening.
Overall, it was a beautiful, intimate wedding nestled in the Salinas hills, and began one incredible marriage!
