A Vibrant Darlington House Wedding | Courtney & Jack

If we were ever the type to call a day our “dream wedding,” this would be it!

And boy, was it a dream for so many reasons. The people, the venue, the design, the dance party— it was absolutely everything we love and value in a day, and we could not have been more honored to travel down to San Diego to celebrate Courtney and Jack’s wedding at The Darlington House!

We’ll start with why these are our dream people. Last summer, we photographed Jack’s sister’s wedding up in Big Sur, and not even 30 seconds after driving away at the end of the night, Joseph and I looked at each other and said “I wish we could relive today a million times over.” Not even a month later, our wish came true. Courtney and Jack emailed us, absolutely loving the experience of working with us, and the photos that came from Nick & Katiebelle’s wedding. They were hoping somehow we’d be available to travel to La Jolla to photograph their day too! This came with a very excited and obvious “YES” from us, and we began planning their day.

It’s so much fun to learn about our couples who turn into friends throughout the process of working together. Before booking with Courtney & Jack, we knew them as Katiebelle & Nick’s brother and future sister in law, and very quickly, they became our friends too. We learned all about their relationship, which began back in high school, and evolved much like a best friendship over the years, throughout the planning of their day, and especially at their engagement session, when we spent the evening hiking through the hills above Ventura! Every time we talked to these two via FaceTime, or in person, our conversations were full of laughter as if we were friends for years. It made our lil photographer hearts so, SO happy!

Now let’s talk the venue! Growing up in San Diego, I’ve known about the Darlington House in La Jolla for a while. Long before I ever was a professional photographer, I drooled over photos of this place, and hoped (somehow) I’d be able to shoot it myself one day. It was only the most perfect coincidence ever that our dream couple was getting married at my dream wedding venue! This place is just stunning, y’all. Spanish style architecture that is very San Diego is mixed with terracotta features and all kinds of colorful tile. Courtney dreamed up a warm and vibrant color scheme to compliment the place perfectly. Their day was full of every shade of rust, orange, and yellow, and was just a dream to photograph!

Perhaps the most important, and highly anticipated part of this day was the party. Courtney and Jack have been together over ten years, and over that time have made so many close friends together. Pair that with their fun loving families, and we were in for a hoot. Everyone was so excited to see these two finally get married, and it showed in how lively and joyful every part of the day was (seriously, go look at the photos from cocktail hour and the reception especially). One of their oldest and best friends officiated what would become the most hilarious wedding ceremony I’ve ever witnessed (he began by reading what Courtney wrote in his middle school yearbook, and it only got better from there). As the sun set, parents and bridal party members toasted Courtney and Jack on Darlington House’s giant patio, and more absolutely hilarious stories were shared and well loved by the guests. And finally, for the dance party, a beautiful collection of 2000s emo music that was formative to the early stages of Courtney and Jack’s relationship.

Overall, this day was the greatest honor for us to photograph. It’s impossible for me to scroll through these photos without wiping the biggest grin off my face. The love Courtney and Jack have grown for each other over the years is so tangible in the way they look at each other, and in the way they love others. I can’t believe we get to consider ourselves lucky enough to call them friends! And fingers crossed, this won’t be our last Darlington House wedding 😏😜😜😜😜.
